A FASHIONISTA’S GUIDE TO CASUAL DRESSING

Casual dressing is supposed to be easy. Just pick a pair of a jeans and a cute blouse, and style it up with some shoes. Why, then, do so many women get it wrong?

Groggily staring into wardrobes every morning trying to decipher an appropriate work ensemble is a problem most women identify with. Relaxed dress codes are supposed to be a reprieve from the tyranny of suits and business wear. That doesn’t mean you show up in a pair of worn-out, whiskered, skinny jeans, a painfully tight blazer, and out-of-place stilettoes.
Here’s decoding the ‘casual’ dress code.

Denims on the Go
Let’s clear the air. Denims are not a fashion blunder. It’s perfectly acceptable to wear denims to work as long as you don’t end up looking like a rag doll. Stick to well-cut and fitting pairs that don’t need much fiddling. Accentuate them with a pretty peasant blouse, a classy statement piece (a single statement piece), a pair of stilettos, and you’re raring to go!

‘Dress’ for Work
There’s a very simple mantra to follow when you’re ‘dressing’ for work – stay away from anything that doesnt let you breathe. It’s never a good idea. Instead, invest in pieces that are simply cut. There’s just something about an understated dress. Plus point – dresses are extremely versatile. Wear them the way they are, add a belt, or add a printed scarf. Throw a jacket in, even. It’ll do wonders to your look.

Pants on Order
The good thing about a casual dress code is the freedom you have to experiment (within reason!). You don’t have to stick to the basic blues, whites, and greys. We suggest opting for pants in a myriad of materials like khakis, corduroys, linen, and dress pants. Whilst neutral colours are a no-brainer, pick bright colours (no neon, please!) and tone it down with a pastel top.

Avant-garde fashion is great, but sometimes, dressing up for work is about investing in timeless pieces. You don’t want to dress for the weekend on a weekday. Navigating a casual dress code shows just how well you understand the culture of your firm. So, dress well, and don’t be another fashion faux pas story.
